Hi All

Thinking of upgrading to Avid Juicy-7 brakes and was wondering if anyone knows anything about these brakes or a better option?

This is the most current pic of my ride with specs;

  • 18" Terrashark frame
  • EPXtras carbon riser bars & bar ends
  • EPXtras carbon seat post
  • Shimano XT Deore shifters, cranks, F&R derailers
  • Mavic Maxtal r-6000 disc wheels
  • Continental Gravity tyres 26x2.3 F&R
  • Jet Black rotors F-180mm, R-160mm
  • Currently Magura Louise brakes?
  • Fox Talas 32 RPL 140mm forks
  • Fox DHX Air 5.0 shock 7.5x2

hi windfox...nice ride you have there....Have you considered the Hayes Stroker Trail , was told it's better braking power compared to Avid Juicy 7.....and also a tad cheaper than the Avids....

Thanks for the advice, I ended up going for the Avid Juicy 7 and I can only compare them to the old Magura Louise that came off and they work extremely well! I got the 7's for half price at an estore clearance sale, I have no complaints about their stopping power.

Hey there Wayne..

May I enquire as to where you obtained those EPXtras carbon bits? Looks juicy!
Also..does the piggyback rear shocks have enough clearance? Does it bang against the frame? How did you set the 7.5" shocks (besides using the extended mount) - am dead curious..

Hi Sharil

I got the EPXtras parts form a bike shop in Melbourne. I will look for the reciepts and get back to you with the details. The rear shock fits perfectly just using the extended shock mount and even with the rear suspension fully compressed it still has 5mm clearance.
I have recently added some Avid Juicy 7 breaks which have added great stopping power the the bike, I got sick of constantly adjusting the Magura standard breaks. The only other thing I have changed is the Mavic Cross-ride wheels, only because I broke one of the other wheels.
