Hi Robert, Just wondering if you still have any pictures or information of how our EPX terrashark frame was formed ... This was taken from MBAction review : THE EPX FRAME IS CUT Carbon material (it has a grain) is cut into shapes (similar to how a tailor cuts out the pattern for a suit). Each piece is cut with a specific job in mind. Some will be cut with the carbon fiber grain running one way, others with the carbon grain opposing. This lay-up allows the frame to be tuned so it is strong and stiff in one area (like the bottom bracket), but with compliance in another (the seat mast).
THE FRAME IS MOLDED The carbon fiber (already impregnated with resin) is ready to be cured. The cut pieces are laid up into the mold with a specially formed nylon bladder inside the wrap. At this stage the frame looks like a deflated balloon in the shape of a bike frame. Once the lay-up procedure is finished, the steel molds are closed and the whole package is gradually brought up to curing temperature with the pressure inside the bladder increasing to assist the forming of the carbon against the mold. The final pressure of about 110 psi and temperature of 180 degrees Celsius are achieved about 45 to 60 minutes into the process. At this point, the pre-impregnated resin has saturated the carbon fibers and the whole matrix is bonded together. Then the mold is allowed to cool to about 80 degrees Celsius before the new frame is ready to be released. Anyone can enlighten me about what and how to care for our Terrashark....what we should look out for and note... thanks once more... |

Hi Magpies, I'm meeting up with one of the designers, Andrew, and I'll ask him for some further details. I'm also organising to get photos of the production and anything else interesting off him for the site. I should also ask my brother-in-law (owns the Syndey design firm that originally designed the bikes) and see if he has some material handy. I've just had too much on for the last few weeks to get around to it As far as I'm aware there isn't actually anything in particular that you need to, or even can do, for the frames. So long as the resin isn't cracked, and you dont' use any nasty solvents on them, the frames are basically zero-maintenance. I put some thick, urethane tape down the sides of my Terrashark frame when I got it and that has kept the finish in good order. The only thing that has been bad is that rubber stop-piece on a Speedster frame I got off Evan. I'm still in need of a replacement for that. Rob |

That's great Rob....looking forward to see those info soon... Reason why i asked about the 'care' of the carbon question is that lately i accidentally scratch the frame (between rear shock and the frame) for about 3 cm length...it's not deep but a scratch, but as you mentioned as long the resin isn't cracked then it's fine... thanks again Rob for taking care of this website.... |

I believe I may still have a page hidden on the site here with most of that information... I'll check.. Yep I do. I'll copy the info out. This geometry is for an 18” frame with a 165mm shock and high rise rear mount fitted with a 100mm travel fork. Rear travel is 129mm or 5”. | Frame size | 18" | | A | Seat Tube Length | 460 | | B | Chainstay Length | 425 | | C | Wheelbase | 1092 | | D | Top Tube Length | 625 | | E | Head Tube Length | 130 | | F | Fork Rake | 38 | | G | Bottom Bracket Height | 305 | | H | Bottom Bracket Drop | 35 | | I | Seat Post Diameter | 31.6 | | J | Seat Tube Angle | 71.5 | | K | Head Tube Angle | 70.5 | | L | Weight | 1600g |
Also - I've now obtained a ton of great photos of the design and production and I just have to find time to get them uploaded here. Andrew (who gave them to me) will then also be able to comment on them to say what they show.
Hope that's you what you need Rob |

Hi Rob, yup it's what i wanted , thanks... One more thing, by any chance would know what is the travel after installing a 7.5" / 190mm rear shock and using the extended mount shock... I'm surprised that with the original shocks, it's a 5" travel.. |

I'm afraid I'm not up with it enough myself to help, but there are enough people reading the "Bike parts" and "Show us your ride" forums and shock length is being discussed in there more often. Try posting the details again in there and I'm sure someone will help. I actually need to close this "Announcements" group because there aren't really any more official EPx announcements as such, but I'll wait just a little longer. |

Hi Tony, I'm not sure I quite follow what you're saying? The EPX Bike Parts forum is meant for people to advertsie and trade new or used bikes and parts, so if you have something to post, please go ahead and do it in there. I'm going to reorganise the forum and the site as soon as I find time. I have lots of pictures that need to go up here as well. Rob |

Hi Sahairy
The only information I still have is the screenshot of the frame measurements that is halfway down this thread.
Magpies has also added some links in the same thread.
I'm not aware of any other user manuals, but if anyone has one, please let us know and we can put it on the site.
Regards Rob

Robert, Do you have the specs for the 16" frame? I'm surprised at the length of the top tube on the 18". I just might be able to ride a 16" without being too cramped. |

Hi Asher,
I've had a dig through some old website backups and took a screenshot of the specs from the 2001 UK site. Obviously, the small frame is the one you'll be looking at.

| Thanks Robert. Looks like it will be a little small for me. I will see what I can do with it. |
