OK, I know the Speedster should be a MTB, but who said it can't
be a roadie?? I started with a black EPX Speedster carbon
frame, then I added EPXtras carbon stem, flat bars and seat post.
The forks are Time carbon, seat by Selle and 700 rims by Sun with
Vittoria EVO KS rubber. Front 105 caliper brake, and a rear disk
from Avid. The tricky part was how to get a decent spread of
gears when there was no front deraileur mount point on the Speedster
frame. I solved this by running a single front chainring, a 9 speed
road cassette and an SRAM DualDrive 3 speed hub. I get 27 speeds
with a lager gear spread than any conventional road bike. Its a
little heavier than your standard road bike, but what roadie do you
know that can fold in 1/2 and slip into the boot of your
car!! Its very comfortable, quite
fast, and draws much more attention than a standard
bike. The part I like most is the beatiful
standard of work in the frame - even the seams are dusted with bronze
flakes to give a better cosmetic appearance. Anyway, maybe the
next project is a bullhorn tri bike using an EPX Reef frame...if I can
get away with it!
