Hi ALL, I've just got myself a RP23 7.5" rear shock and together with the 7.5" extend mounts, i've installed it but now facing a massive problem after installing it. The top of the FD is touching the bottom part of the Terrashark swing arm as shown in the pictures below...Can anyone (especially those with the 7.5" rear shocks) help me and share with me your clearance between the FD and the swing arm...thanks in advance... Currently it's on the smallest COG in the front...but i can change to the middle ring ....

You need to rotatte teh FD around the BB to make clearance. Funny I'm just about to do the opposite and shorten the travel on mine. Paul.

Paul...i managed to do temp solution, my modifying the black tab which holds the FD to our EPX frame near the BB. made another hole further out. I can't rotate the FD as the black tab will not turn with it...probably a long term solution is get a longer tab with multiple holes...to hold it.

Thats the way. I made a tab out of Aluminium sheet about 3mm thick it needs a little offset in it to make it line up withthe back of the FD. Fix it on the frame with one screw then put the SA in place and rotate the FD into place then mark the tab through the FD hole. Take it all to bits again drill the hole. How long is the tab on your standard setup?

Yeah paul...the original black tab has an eye to eye of approx. 5cm...i had to make another hole 0.3 cm away...

I have the exact same problem... i dont suppose anyones taken pictures of their fix? my bikes been out of action for a while now with this... i may be pushing uphill but im trying to get a 195mm shock in there which probably doesn't help...

trd2000...you need to modify the black tab which is holding your FD to your EPX frame...it's found behind the FD..modify that tab , by drilling another hole to make the FD to rotate to lower...if you are using the XT FD...you can also switch it on the FD itself..but main solution was modifying the black tab...

This may be a no no but I took a different tack when reassembling my bike yesterday after major repairs. I chose to use a dremel tool to clearance grind away some of the top of the FD cage to allow room. Now it just barely misses when the bike is at rest and I'm sure does even a little better when I'm riding and the rear schock is in compression. We'll see what problems that will bring on. The cage still looks to be very strong at the top.

I made a simple bracket that allows the FD to be located. It bolts to the tapped hole in the frame and extends backwards so the FD does not hit the SA on full extension. The bracket is a piece of 3x19 (1/8 x 3/4) aluminium that I bent like a staircase to achieve the offset so the back of the FD is still in line with the frame. Its important not to put any angular stress on the FD.
