Hi Everyone

Just need some help with replacing my seatpost please?

It's an Easton carbon fibre one and I like it but for one thing: it's a single bolt clamp design, which has a very annoying habit of working itself loose at the most inopportune moment!

Does anyone have any recommendations? My local shop that services the Terrashark recommend a Thomson twin bolt, but I know nothing about seatposts.

Also, does anyone know the diameter of the Terrashark seat tube? (it's a 16" frame) Should I just find out what size I need, buy online and fit myself or should I buy from my local shop who'll fit it for me?

Maybe they price match....?

Thanks for any help with this.

Follow the link to the eBay auction in this post. Those are the last 2 from the former Australian EPX distributor.

Hi Robert

Thanks for the link (and Adrian for your reply too).
Would you recommend the seatpost? Have you had any problems with yours?
At 400 mm, it would be too long (my current Easton one is about 330), is carbon fibre safe to cut or does that reduce its structural rigidity?

Thanks

Just had a check on Ebay and there's quite a few double bolt clamp models from China that are 350 mm, so I wouldn't need to trim it down.
They're unbranded, though - not a good idea?

hmm.. not sure about the cutting down. I use mine at full length on my Terrashark and it's not even long enough.

They are of course already cut from longer pieces, but the cuts are obviously done with a device that does a nice clean job. I imagine it could be quite messy to do it with a saw, unless it was very fine. Perhaps it would cut best if it were rotating with a blade held against it.

No idea about the ones from China. They could be great or they could be junk. Someone else might know better.

Thanks Rob.

I'm a shortie at 5'3" and that's why my seatpost is relatively short at 330 and my Terrashark is the 16" frame. I just wondered if it were too long, would it interfere with the rear shock mechanism?

Would you recommend that I get the Aussie one? I do live near a professional joiners' workshop and could always ask them to trim it for me if necessary.

Thanks for your help

Hi,
The seatpost diameter for Terrashark is 31.6mm and the seatpost clamp is 36.5mm (very difficult to get this in Malaysia).
IMHO, the rotating blade, suggested by Robert, only works on metal, eg. alloy etc. I've seen one guy cut the steer tube of carbon fork with hack saw, and it works fine.

The guy selling those posts is Evan, who ran the EPX dealership in Australia for years. He'll have cut plenty of them down in the past and perhaps could do it before sending it out.

Ask him through the eBay auction, or get in touch through his site here: http://www.cyclicbicycles.com/

Thanks Rob - have written to Evan through Ebay asking if he'll trim the seatpost down to 330 mm before sending out and am awaiting reply.
